DETROIT PEOPLES MOVEMENT ASSEMBLY 313

The PMA grew out of discussions among members of organizations anchoring the social forum in Detroit. The purpose of the PMA was to explore visions for change in Detroit by the US Social Forum. In the course of the preparation, important ongoing struggles were identified in Detroit and the agenda for the PMA grew out of a desire and a need to support these struggles with actions at the USSF. The PMA helped broaden support for the USSF, for the campaigns with specific focus on building and planning the actions at the USSF.

Resolution Summary

Because the USSF is coming to Detroit with thousands of activists from across the country and around the globe who will want to support Detroit in its visions, struggles and alternatives, we commit to:

  • Register our organizations for the USSF, reach out to our members to bring them to the USSF, and outreach to the Detroit community;
  • Support the four actions as part of on-going campaigns;
  • Make sure organizations which want to organize actions in Detroit around the USSF partner with and follow the lead of Detroit local organizations.
