We, the National Boricua Human Rights Network ask the People's Movement Assemblies to approve the following resolution:
We demand the release of the Puerto Rican political prisoners, patriots, Oscar López Rivera and Avelino González Claudio. We recognize that these patriots have been incarcerated due to their political beliefs and actions in support of Puerto Rican independence. As such, their imprisonment marks a serious violation of international human rights and stand in the way of the genuine decolonization of Puerto Rico. We recognize that the United Nations Decolonization Committee has requested that the President of the United States release the Puerto Rican political prisoners.
We call for a national/international Day of Solidarity with the Puerto Rican political prisoners on September 10. This date coincides with the release of four Puerto Rican political prisoners on Sept. 10 1979, and the release of 11 political prisoners on September 10 1999.
We also demand an end to the continued political repression of Puerto Rican activism throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, which has recently involved the formation of several grand juries investigating the Puerto Rican independence movement.
